UMUC President Showcases New Automated Transfer System at the U.S. Department of Education’s National Summit in Chicago
ADELPHI, Md. (Aug. 14, 2008) — University of Maryland University College (UMUC) President Susan C. Aldridge presented the university’s new integrated system, “Singularity Suite,” at the U.S. Department of Education’s national summit in Chicago last month. Singularity Suite is an enterprise document management system that enables institutions like UMUC to automate all critical document and transfer processes. UMUC is the largest institution in the United States using this program, created by Hershey Systems.
“As a growing university with thousands of students located across 25 time zones, it’s essential that we invest in the latest technology to help streamline the transfer process to ensure that our students experience a simple, seamless transition,” said Aldridge. “This new program provides UMUC with easy, instantaneous access to student credits and transcripts no matter where they are located or what institution they are transferring from.”
Aldridge presented UMUC’s integration of Singularity Suite to higher education leaders and stakeholders, university presidents, and business and organization leaders from across the nation at this year’s summit. With the implementation of the program, UMUC will be able to streamline all transfer student transcript and credit evaluation processes across the entire university within 48 hours. As a university with campuses on three different continents and dozens of alliances with institutions nationwide, this new system integrates the entire transfer and articulation process—from admissions to financial aid—taking 60 years of student archives and digitally uploading them into a worldwide database.
Dr. Aldridge was invited by the University System of Maryland (USM) to present UMUC’s newly integrated technology, as part of USM’s Effectiveness and Efficiency Initiative, which helps to advance accessibility, affordability and accountability.
Singularity Forms has been improved to allow real-time population of demographic and related data. All forms now have the ability to be saved in a partially completed format. In addition, the forms bulk-processing interface has been enhanced to handle the automated import of massive amounts of structured data in short periods of time.
“With more than 400 enhancements, Singularity 7.0 raises the bar for enterprise content management solutions in higher education,” said Ron Christian, President of Hershey Systems.
